Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a range of disorders that affect the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, intestines, and uterus (in women). This condition can lead to a variety of symptoms, such as pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, and sexual dysfunction. It can result from factors like childbirth, aging, obesity, surgical procedures, or chronic conditions that place stress on the pelvic floor. Symptoms may vary significantly among individuals, and many people may find it difficult or embarrassing to discuss these issues. Physical therapy can help strengthen and coordinate the pelvic floor muscles, as well as lifestyle changes.
